At 22 years old, my life changed in an instant. Just days after graduating from the University of Miami and preparing to begin teaching with Teach For America in Philadelphia, I was struck in the face by a bolt that came through a car windshield. The impact left me permanently blind, without my sense of smell, and facing multiple surgeries—including the removal of both eyes.
In that moment, the future I had worked so hard for was gone. What remained was a choice: let loss define me, or redefine myself through resilience and gratitude. I chose the latter.
My recovery wasn’t just physical—it required me to rebuild my identity and outlook on life. Rather than focusing on what I lost, I committed to seeing what remained: opportunity, connection, and possibility. With the help of my guide dog, Kegan, I found independence and a renewed sense of confidence.
This shift in perspective has allowed me to not only rebuild my life but to thrive. I’ve partnered with organizations like Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, and national brands such as Jersey Mike’s Subs to share my journey of resilience and positivity.
Today, I am passionate about helping others reframe adversity through gratitude and perseverance. Whether through keynote speaking, workshops, or my YouTube channel, my goal is to educate, inspire, and empower audiences to see challenges as opportunities for growth.
I share practical insights on accessibility, the power of perspective, and the role gratitude plays in motivating us to keep moving forward. My story isn’t about blindness—it’s about vision: the ability to see possibility even in the darkest moments.
